DRAFTED AT BIRTH

The line “To this day, my father thinks I exaggerate the terror of my childhood” couldn’t be more accurate. I, too, exag gerate nothing when I say that Conroy’s life as a Marine Corps brat as he described it was so close to my own that we could have been brother and sister. Unlike Conroy’s father, for mine, there has been no redemption, only denial.
Conroy’s article has brought this condition into the light, and there may be some hope for resolution.
