Walnut : Street Vendor Ban OKd
Street-corner merchants, such as flower vendors and rug dealers, would be banned from selling their goods in Walnut under a measure tentatively approved by the City Council Wednesday.
The council acted following complaints earlier this year from local business owners, who said roadside vendors with one-day business permits were siphoning sales from established merchants and creating “swap meet” displays on major intersections.
Florists especially were irked by the street-corner sale of flowers on holidays, such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.
A final vote is scheduled for the council’s July 24 meeting.
