BRUTE COMMUTE: Orange County residents have the shortest commute in the region, in terms of both time and distance (above). . . . But the survey by a Los Angeles-based consulting firm also shows that Orange County has the worst congestion. That’s no contradiction, says county transportation czar Stanley T. Oftelie. “We have the low numbers because we’re a very compact county,” he says, but we have more commuters here per freeway mile.
