VENTURA : Pro-Business Group Targets City Council
- Share via
Angry at what they consider an “anti-business” City Council in Ventura, members of the real estate and business community have formed a new political action group to back council candidates that represent their views.
“These people on the council, without exception, are not governing this community properly,” said Robert L. McCord, a Ventura attorney and co-chairman of the new group, Venturans for Responsible Government.
“These people need to be replaced,” McCord said. “Our job is to find those candidates.”
Carolyn Leavens, a rancher and co-chairman of the group, said the council is destroying the city with its “anti-business policies,” including its refusal to hook the city to the state water system.
The group plans to measure the breadth of discontent among voters by hiring a pollster to conduct a public opinion survey. With those results, the group will develop a questionnaire for candidates, interview them and select a slate for endorsement.
