Pasadena : New Trial Scheduled
A new trial has been ordered to determine whether convicted murderer George Marvin Trone Jr. is eligible for the death penalty.
A jury found Trone guilty of murder, kidnaping, robbery, rape and another sexual offense, but deadlocked Sept. 4 on the special-circumstances findings that are needed before a death sentence can be considered.
Pasadena Superior Court Judge Charles C. Lee scheduled the new trial for Oct. 29. The new jury must find that Trone, 21, of Pasadena, intended to kill Lois Haro, a Pasadena businesswoman, while committing the other crimes against her.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Lewis consulted with Haro’s family before seeking the new trial, which will focus solely on the special-circumstances issue.
