Glendale : Senior Housing Approved

The City Council and Housing Authority on Tuesday granted final approval to The Gardens, a 75-unit apartment complex for low-income seniors.
The city will contribute about $750,000 in community housing funds toward the $6-million project, which is largely funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Construction will begin next month, with completion expected by the end of 1992, said Marlene Roth, spokeswoman for the Glendale Soroptimists, a nonprofit business women’s group that has been planning the facility for eight years.
The complex at 333 E. Monterey Road will be operated in partnership with Southern California Presbyterian Homes, a Glendale-based specialist in housing for low-income seniors.
Meanwhile, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held today on a separate housing project for low-income seniors--the $2.1-million, 22-unit Palmer House at 555 E. Palmer Ave. Presbyterian Homes is also the developer on that project.
