A Ventura man released from the County Jail was back behind bars within a few hours Saturday after he led authorities on an 80-mile chase and drove his car through several front yards to avoid capture, a sheriff’s official said.
Martin Hernandez, 30, was booked into jail on suspicion of hit-and-run, reckless driving, evading arrest and spousal battery. He was being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
Hernandez was freed Friday hours after being arrested on suspicion of brandishing a hammer, Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Markley said.
Markley said Hernandez’s latest trouble started about 7 a.m. Saturday when deputies were summoned to a house on Norway Drive for a reported domestic dispute.
Hernandez allegedly attempted to flee by driving toward Los Angeles on the Ventura Freeway.
At the county line, Hernandez turned around and headed north. An hour later, he was arrested in Oxnard after hitting a car at the corner of Vineyard and Myrtle avenues. No one was hurt in the incident.
