Zrinka Kristich had 28 kills and Stefanie Bakke had 37 assists to lead La Habra to a four-game victory over Torrey Pines in a Division II Southern California Regional semifinal game Saturday at La Habra High.
Second-seeded La Habra won, 8-15, 15-7, 15-3, 15-10. The Highlanders host Los Angeles Marlborough at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Marlborough defeated Torrance, 12-15, 16-14, 15-5, 15-11. La Habra (23-2) is seeking its third consecutive State championship. Third-seeded Torrey Pines ends its season at 21-5.
In Game 4, the Highlanders built a 10-0 lead before Torrey Pines scored. Kristich won the match on a tip over the net.
“Once we got our momentum, it was hard to stop,” said Kristich, who also had five blocks. “We didn’t want to play five games.”
Said La Habra Coach Sandy Blumenthal: “If we could pass I knew we could do well. After the first game we settled down, regained composure, and started passing.”
“We weren’t passing and our sets were off in game one,” Bakke said. “We finally started playing our game (set the ball and pass to Kristich). Zrinka was pounding the ball tonight.”
