Nation IN BRIEF : NEBRASKA : Labor Fines Linked to Kerrey Business

A Nebraska restaurant chain founded and still partially owned by Sen. Bob Kerrey, a Democratic presidential candidate, has been cited by the Labor Department for 116 violations of federal child-labor laws and fined $64,000, the Washington Post reported. The Post, quoting government sources, said federal investigators have alleged child-labor violations--most of them involving illegal hours--in every one of the eight restaurants in the Grandmothers Inc. chain, which employs about 900 people. The violations are expected to be announced today. Dean Rasmussen, Kerrey’s brother-in-law and co-founder of the chain, took the blame for the problems.
