Johnson’s Wife Tests Negative for HIV

Magic Johnson’s wife again tested negative for the virus that is believed to cause AIDS, Johnson’s agent said Wednesday.
The results of Earletha (Cookie) Johnson’s HIV screen that was taken about two weeks ago showed no sign of the virus, Lon Rosen said. Earletha, who married Johnson Sept. 14, is about three months pregnant.
Johnson announced his retirement from basketball Nov. 7, saying he contracted an HIV infection. At the time, Johnson said his wife tested negative for the human immunodeficiency virus.
One of Johnson’s physicians, David Ho of the New York University’s Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, said last month that Earletha would be tested again to make sure she was not infected.
“If that test is negative, everyone will consider the situation closed for her,” he said at the time.
