Cameron Rast, a former Simi Valley Royal High soccer standout, is among the finalists for the Today’s Top Six awards, presented annually by the NCAA. Rast, captain of the U.S. Olympic soccer team, is a two-time All-American and three-year captain at Santa Clara University. He is among six candidates selected for consideration from fall sports. The others are Brigham Young quarterback Ty Detmer, Wisconsin Madison soccer player Heather Taggart, Washington State kicker Jason Hanson, Nebraska volleyball player Janet Kruse and Florida defensive tackle Brad Culpepper. Candidates for the award are selected on the basis of athletics, academics, character, leadership and activities.
