He’s Not Gone and He’s Not Forgotten

The profile of Jack Smith and his charming Denise by Beverly Beyette is a revealing view of Jack’s prolific world ( “A Window on the World,” Jan. 1). It is also an appropriate tribute to our Jack-of-all-trades on the eve of his retirement. (“Retirement?” I don’t believe it.)
Besides his work as a columnist, Jack Smith has been a loyal supporter of library and book functions, both with his colleagues as well as independently and always with his special flair.
It seems to me that he has, in fact, contributed a new word to the vocabulary he relishes so much: jacksmith --i.e. to each his own, which he personifies so gallantly.
