Man Pleads Guilty in Infant’s Death

SANTA ANA — An Orange man pleaded guilty Monday to voluntary manslaughter in the death of his live-in girlfriend’s baby girl and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Raymond Owen Bonner, 35, admitted in Superior Court to killing 3-month-old Ashley June Perkins, on Nov. 29, 1990, said Bonner’s lawyer, Michael A. Leversen.
The day Ashley died, her mother, Sheri L. Perkins, 17, called paramedics from a pay phone near her Trabuco Canyon home, saying her daughter had stopped breathing. Bonner apparently told them he had unsuccessfully administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the unconscious infant.
But an autopsy found bruises and showed the child died of asphyxiation, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said shortly after Bonner was arrested in January, 1991.
