Council to Consider Nude Juice Bar Plan

GARDEN GROVE — The debate over a proposed nude juice bar will resume Tuesday, this time before the City Council.
The council will consider a proposal to replace an adult bookstore and peep-show arcade with a juice bar featuring topless or nude women dancing before patrons as they sip nonalcoholic beverages.
The proposal was rejected by the Planning Commission last month, but Waldon R. Welty, owner of A-Z Books on Garden Grove Boulevard, appealed that decision.
The plans failed to meet the city’s requirements for parking or driveway design and could cause traffic problems and jeopardize the health, safety and welfare of residents in the area, planning commissioners concluded.
Welty, an architect for the project and a professional engineer hired by Welty maintain that the bar would meet city requirements.
