Chicano Secret Service Brings Satirical Assault to Fullerton

The Chicano Secret Service invades downtown Fullerton this weekend, bringing its self-proclaimed guerrilla comedy to the Teatro Cometa Playhouse.
In a series of sketches, the trio mixes political and social satire with rap and hip-hop dance. In one skit, CNN--the Chicano News Network--covers President Bush delivering a speech translated into Spanish with the help of his “little brown ones” (as Bush once infamously referred to some of his grandchildren).
Mexican painter and current fad darling Frida “Kahlua” also makes an appearance, as does raza rapper MC Chorizo.
CSS is the creation of Elias Serna, 22, and Lalo Lopez, 25, both of Los Angeles, who formed the group in 1988 with Oxnard-resident Tomas Carrasco, 26.
Despite their nationalistic Chicano stance and use of Spanish, it’s hoped that non-Latino audiences can appreciate the humor and message they deliver.
“We’re here to promote our cause to everyone,” Lopez explained recently. “People should come and learn about the non-stereotypical side of Chicano life.”
The 90-minute show is followed by an open question-and-answer session.
