GM to Close Automated Facility: General Motors Corp. said it is closing its “factory of the future” in Saginaw, Mich., but it wasn’t clear if the Vanguard plant’s closure is related to the auto maker’s recently announced plan to restructure. The plant’s 85 skilled trade workers will be moved to an adjacent facility, GM said. The facility used a highly automated system to make front-end components for the Saturn cars that GM builds in Spring Hill, Tenn., and for GM’s joint venture with Daewoo Motors Corp. of South Korea, which makes the Pontiac LeMans. Production of the parts will be transferred to other GM factories.
