SANTA ANA — Two unidentified men were fatally shot in the head and torso outside an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon, and the killer remains at large.
Police said they have no suspects in the slayings at 1822 S. Evergreen St. Police found one body by a tree beside the four-unit apartment complex and the other on the sidewalk.
Lt. Robert Helton said police received a call about 4 p.m. about shots fired in the area.
Police combing the area found several shell casings on the sidewalk but no other clues.
The men, believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, did not carry identification, Helton said.
About 100 residents crowded around the graffiti-inscribed apartment building after the shooting. But hours after the incident, police had no witnesses.
Someone had told officers that a male was seen walking away from the scene, but police could find no trace of the man.
Helton said the incident was not believed to be gang-related.
Two weeks ago, a man was found in the back seat of his roommate’s car, stabbed to death, in the same block on Occidental Street. Helton said that incident has no connection to this shooting.
