DEVORE, Calif. — San Bernardino County authorities combed a rural area Tuesday for traces of 9-year-old Sandra Astorga, who disappeared more than two weeks ago.
The search resumed Monday after rabbit hunters found her backpack and some of her clothing about half a mile off a road south of Devore and west of Interstate 215.
About 100 deputies and police officers--twice as many searchers as on Monday--walked shoulder-to-shoulder in grid patterns over a half-mile area, Deputy Jim Bryant said.
Sandra has been missing since Jan. 10, when she failed to show up for classes at Roosevelt Elementary School in San Bernardino. The girl lived with her parents about six blocks from the school.
Police officers saturated the area with flyers bearing Sandra’s picture and a description of the clothes she wore at the time of her disappearance: A green T-shirt with a logo from the television series “Beverly Hills 90210,” and Levi’s pants and white short pants.
