Freddie Edwards of Antelope Valley High made an oral commitment Tuesday to attend San Diego State.
Edwards (6-foot-1, 175 pounds), a two-way starter at free safety and tailback for the Antelopes, was recruited as a cornerback. Edwards rushed for 1,338 yards, scored 16 touchdowns and intercepted a team-high five passes.
He has met Proposition 48 standards and will be eligible to play as a freshman. Included during his recruitment were trips to Washington, Utah and Hawaii. He will cancel a trip to USC.
Meanwhile, Cory Bowen, Shane Graham and Jeff Trevathan, all of Thousand Oaks High, made commitments to attend four-year colleges, according to Coach Bob Richards.
Bowen, the Marmonte League co-offensive player of the year, will accept an offer from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Bowen (5-8, 185) rushed for school records of 1,704 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. He also visited Montana.
Graham (6-6, 225), a preseason SuperPrep magazine All-Far West tight end who caught 13 passes for 210 yards, will attend Northwestern. Graham, an All-Ventura County selection, also visited Oregon and Colorado State.
Trevathan (5-10, 170), a second-team All-Ventura County selection, will attend Montana. Trevathan caught 21 passes for 263 yards as a wide receiver and also started in the defensive backfield.
