Grab The Green Does Just That

HIALEAH, Fla. — Grab The Green drove past longshot Vigorous Lady in mid-stretch and scored a 2 1/2-length victory Tuesday in the $150,000 Black Helen Handicap--the closing day feature of Hialeah’s comeback 50-day meeting.
Hialeah averaged 8,200 fans and a handle of $1,625,000 for the meet. It marked a comeback for the historic track, which had been closed since December of 1989.
Ridden by Jose Santos, Grab the Green ran a mile and an eighth in 1:48 and paid $9, $7.20 and $4.20. Vigorous Lady paid $14.80 and $8.80. Gaelic Bird paid $7.80 to show.
Vigorous Lady took the lead immediately and was two lengths in front into the first turn. Grab The Green was sixth and starting to move. Grab The Green went past Vigorous Lady inside the eighth pole and drew away.
A Texas-bred 4-year-old by Cozzene, Grab The Green is owned by Samuel Rogers Jr. Grab The Green won seven of 13 starts last year, earning $252,810.
