West Covina : Firefighters Nix Pay Offer
The West Covina Fireman’s Assn. has rejected the city’s offer for a 3% cost-of-living increase.
The firefighter’s three-year contract, which included a 5% raise, expired Dec. 31.
In January, the group requested a minimum 5% increase, which would have brought wages up to the average salaries for firefighters in cities of comparable size in the region, said Harvie Burton, the association’s president.
The City Council on Tuesday agreed to discuss the impasse at its Feb. 18 meeting. Burton said he will address the council at that time.
Firefighters’ salaries now range from $23,328 to $39,300. Engineers and paramedics get between $36,996 and $44,964; captains are paid from $43,332 to $52,680.
