PORT HUENEME : Ceremony to Mark Port-of-Entry Status
- Share via
Oxnard Harbor District officials will hold a ceremony Wednesday to mark the Port of Hueneme’s recent designation as a U.S. port of entry.
U.S. Customs Commissioner Carol Hallett granted port-of-entry status on Nov. 1 followed by a 60-day public comment period. The customs service, after receiving only two written comments--both positive--certified the declaration Friday.
The designation as a port of entry is expected to boost the Port of Hueneme’s plans to become a larger player in West Coast shipping because incoming cargo may now be unloaded without first being cleared through the customs office in Los Angeles.
Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) will present port officials with the formal designation Wednesday morning at the port.
