Cunningham’s 35 Lead Los Alamitos

ANAHEIM — Senior Jason Cunningham led Los Alamitos with 35 points and the Griffins defeated Loara, 82-62, in an Empire League boys’ basketball game Friday.
Los Alamitos (17-9, 9-1 in league) tied for the league title with Esperanza (16-10, 9-1), which defeated Cypress, 53-37, Friday. It was the third consecutive title that Los Alamitos has won or shared and its fourth in five seasons.
Cunningham, a 6-foot-5 forward, also had 15 rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Loara (4-19, 0-10) outscored Los Alamitos, 27-14, in the second quarter to take a 42-37 lead at the half. But Los Alamitos switched to a full-court trap defense in the third quarter and outscored Loara, 21-12, to take a 58-54 lead.
Pete Gonzalez scored 16 points for Loara.
Cunningham had 20 points in the fourth quarter as Los Alamitos outscored Loara, 24-8.
