This 90-minute concert video, filmed in Montreal in 1982, doesn’t give you a sense of Freddie Mercury, the rock band’s lead singer who died of AIDS last November, at his electrifying best. You get all the hits, including “We Are the Champions,” “We Will Rock You” and “Another One Bites the Dust,” but none of the charge of a dynamic Mercury performance. Part of the problem is the static cinematography and the consistently mediocre sound. Originally released by Vestron Video in 1983, this is a concert film, with neither interviews nor backstage footage. Undemanding Queen fanatics will be satisfied, but if you’re unfamiliar with the group’s shows and in the market for a video of Mercury in peak form, look elsewhere.
