In another Big West Conference baseball game:

Cal State Long Beach 8, UC Irvine 3--Brian Whatley went two-for-four with three RBIs for the visiting 49ers (8-6, 1-1). Tim McDonnell’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth gave the Anteaters (8-6, 1-1) their last lead at 3-2.

In nonconference baseball:

Christ College Irvine 12, Biola 5--Mike Adams (2-2) pitched seven innings to earn the victory and also went three-for-four with two runs scored and two RBIs for host CCI (6-5).

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

Cal State Fullerton 87, San Jose State 75--Claudette Jackson had 30 points and 12 rebounds and Joey Ray had 28 points for host Fullerton (11-14, 6-10).

In Big West Conference men’s tennis:

UC Irvine 5, Fresno State 4--In the final match of the day, Brett Hansen-Dent and Marcos Zuniga of 21st-ranked Irvine (4-2), won a tiebreaker in the final set to win their match, 7-6, 1-6, 7-6, and lift visiting Irvine past defending Big West Champion Fresno State.

At the Pacific-10 wrestling championships:

Campbell Wins--Cal State Fullerton’s 134-pound Lyndon Campbell won a 6-5 decision over Marco Sanchez of Arizona State to win an individual Pac-10 championship and qualify for the the NCAA Championships.
