Anti-Crime Team to Be Deployed

Reacting to a rise in street crime, Redondo Beach police will use a special anti-crime team normally reserved for the busy holiday season to cut down on residential burglaries, holdups and other incidents.
The Crime Impact Team, a small group of undercover officers removed from normal patrol duty, is normally formed during December to respond to crimes around the Galleria mall in northeast Redondo Beach.
But the City Council Tuesday night agreed to deploy the officers this month through the end of June to curb a crime wave that has alarmed Police Chief Roger M. Mouton and other officials.
Robberies in the city rose from 149 in 1990 to 185 last year, according to Moulton, with most of them involving guns, knives and other weapons.
