Unstable Foundation Forces Evacuation

Four residents of a Mission Beach apartment building were evacuated early Saturday when a section of street buckled and their building was feared unstable, San Diego police said.
Agent Stephen Dietrich said the road failure occurred near the intersection of Bayside Lane and Ormond Court. Residents of the apartment building heard rushing water about 3 a.m. and telephoned authorities, who said workmen in the area had broken an underground water pipe on Friday.
Police said the apartment building in the 800 block of Ormond Court was evacuated after authorities feared its foundation was unsteady.
The area is also blocked off to traffic, police said.
