LOS ANGELES : Port Still Busiest in U.S.; Long Beach Ranked Second

The Port of Los Angeles maintained its rank as the nation’s busiest last year with a 3% gain in international cargo containers to just over 1.5 million, a trade journal reported Monday.
Total shipments moved by the Port of Los Angeles in 1991, including domestic and military containers, were 2.04 million, according to the Journal of Commerce. The second busiest U.S. port was Long Beach, which is adjacent to the Los Angeles port and moved 1.35 million containers last year, a 12% increase. Much of that gain came from Hanjin Shipping’s move from the Port of Los Angeles to a new Long Beach terminal last March.
