SAN DIEGO : Nararro Wins Nod by Sierra Club
- Share via
The Southern California leadership of the Sierra Club has approved the San Diego chapter’s endorsement of growth-management advocate Peter Navarro for San Diego mayor, an official for the environmental organization said Monday.
The endorsement is an important environmental credential and gives a candidate access to a large cadre of volunteer assistance.
Last Thursday, Navarro claimed the endorsement on a ballot statement that will be sent to voters, even though the organization had not made a final decision. Gambling that the regional leadership would go along with the local chapter’s recommendation, Navarro included the endorsement on his ballot statement, which had to be filed with the city clerk by 5 p.m. Thursday.
The Sierra Club’s local candidate review committee for Southern California met Thursday night and approved the choice of Navarro, said Dan Hayes, the committee’s chairman.
