Tele-Communications, McCaw Test Mobile Phone Service: Denver-based Tele-Communications Inc. and Kirkland, Wash.-based McCaw Cellular Communications said they had begun market-testing a new wireless mobile phone service in Ashland, Ore. The six-month-long test will include 200 participants with battery-operated pocket-size phones usable anywhere in the greater Ashland community. Cable operators such as TCI are eyeing the wireless phone market as a potentially lucrative cross between cable TV and telecommunications services.
