ANTELOPE VALLEY : Trustees Pledge to Balance Budget
- Share via
The governing board of the Antelope Valley Union High School District, facing a projected deficit of nearly $4.6 million this year, has promised to balance its budget next year or face losing local control to a state-appointed administrator.
The district’s board of trustees voted 5 to 0 Monday night to approve the pledge. Los Angeles County education officials had sought the commitment in exchange for the board’s efforts to help the district out of its financial crisis, possibly with a loan later this year.
The district needs to make up a budget deficit of nearly $4.6 million this year, and put aside an additional $1.3-million budget reserve required by the state. If the district does not have a balanced budget by mid-1993, the board agreed to accept appointment of a state administrator.
