Navy Orders Five New Destroyers: The Navy said it ordered the new Arleigh Burke class Aegis destroyers from Bath Iron Works in Maine and a unit of Beverly Hills-based Litton Industries at a cost of $1.32 billion. The privately owned Bath firm won a $749.9-million contract to build three ships by October, 1997. The Ingalls Shipbuilding division of Litton received a $571.6-million contract to build two destroyers at its Pascagoula, Miss., yard. The two are scheduled for completion in April, 1997.
