Sierra Madre : Library Is Open Again
The Public Library, closed since Feb. 25 for removal of an asbestos acoustical ceiling, has been partially reopened.
Two rooms that are still closed--the Children’s Room and the Jameson Sierra Madre Room--will open Monday after storage boxes are removed and repairs completed.
Library patrons with books checked out before Feb. 25 have until April 27 to return them without being assessed an overdue fee, officials said.
The $38,000 asbestos removal project was undertaken after roofing work loosened the ceiling. About 40,000 books, paintings, magazines and cassette tapes were removed and decontaminated.
