Performers in Pomona College’s annual faculty dance concert, which premieres at 8 tonight, will try to recapture famed modern dancer Jose Limon’s effortless movements and riveting power.
The Mexican choreographer, considered one of the greatest modern dancers, died in 1972 in New Jersey.
In one of the six highlights, visiting dance professor Jonathan Leinbach will present “A Choreographic Offering,” which Limon created in 1962 while at the Juilliard School in New York. Also, Libby Nye , director of the college’s dance program, will
re-create the “Exiles,” and Juilliard graduate Risa Steinberg will perform.
The concert also will feature performances by other faculty members, concluding with an anthropology professor tap-dancing to tunes from the ‘40s.
Additional performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Admission for all shows at the Seaver Theatre, 300 E. Bonita Ave. in Claremont, is $8; $5 for students, faculty and staff of the Claremont Colleges, and senior citizens. For more information, call (714) 621-8525, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
