School: Cerritos High
Sport: Softball
Position: Pitcher
Class: Junior
The Cerritos Dons star pitcher won two games as she led her team to a 3-0 San Gabriel Valley League record. Taggart threw a perfect game in a 2-0 win over Paramount High. She then helped her team defeat Lynwood, 4-0, limiting the Knights to three hits. Taggart struck out 13 during 14 innings. The two shutouts lowered her earned-run average to 0.30. Taggart, with a 5-3 won-lost record so far this year, was a perfect 10-0 last year as a sophomore. Her coach, Tom Fitzgerald, attributes much of her success to the fact that she can throw six different pitches.
Other top performers:
Christy Megowan scored Gahr High’s only run as the Gladiators defeated Lynwood, 1-0. Megowan is batting .833 (10 for 12) in three San Gabriel Valley League games.
Andrea Anderson, a freshman sprinter, won both the 100- and 200-meter races as she led Poly High to a 96-18 win over Lakewood in a Moore League dual track meet.
