UCLA, Arizona Split Doubleheader

The top-rated UCLA softball team split a doubleheader with second-ranked and defending national champion Arizona Tuesday at UCLA.
Arizona won the opener, 1-0, behind the two-hit pitching of Debby Day. That broke a UCLA winning streak of 33 games and was the Bruins’ first home loss since March, 1990.
UCLA defeated Arizona, 1-0, in the nightcap with a fifth-inning home run by Joanne Alchin and the four-hit, eight-strikeout pitching of Lisa Fernandez (15-0).
The Bruins are 34-1 and 5-1 in Pacific 10 Conference play. Arizona is 38-4 and 5-1.
