Violence in Oakland
I heartily applaud Oakland Mayor Elihu Harris for his emergency plan that he feels will stop the violence in his city (March 25). It is about time that someone, preferably one of our elected officials, stands up and takes action against this epidemic of senseless violence that has our citizens living in fear. It is also past time that parents with children living in their homes are made to assume some of the responsibility for the criminal actions of their children.
In all of the campaigning for the presidency not one of the candidates has addressed to any degree these problems of street crimes involving drugs and gangs. Are these not important issues? Mayor Harris is trying to find the answers in his city. Let us pray that his plan is implemented and is successful.
