Loyola Men’s Volleyball Coach to Resign After Stanford Match

Loyola Marymount men’s volleyball Coach Mike Normand will resign after Saturday’s season-ending match at Stanford.
Loyola is 3-23 and 0-15 in the Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. Normand has a 26-64 record in four years as coach.
“I’m leaving to rejoin my family in Hawaii,” Normand said. “I have enjoyed my time at LMU, but my family is my top priority. I feel that the volleyball program has come a long way in the last few years.”
Normand has a wife and two children, and the couple are expecting a third child in June.
In 1989, Normand’s first season as coach, Loyola finished 5-17. In 1990, the Lions were 9-10 and in 1991 they were 9-14 and qualified for the WIVA championship tournament for the first time in school history.
Normand also coached the Loyola women’s team in 1989, when the Lions finished 8-19 and 7-7 in the West Coast Conference.
Loyola is the only team in the 12-member WIVA that has failed to win at least one league match this season.
The Lions will be a decided underdog against Stanford, which is ranked No. 2.
Normand is a 1974 graduate of UCLA.
