PALMDALE : Bids $2.2 Million Over Projections

Bids on a proposed 400-seat performing arts theater in Palmdale have come in $2.2 million over budget, and the City Council has decided to delay a decision on the project until after next week’s election.
The city budgeted $4.7 million for the theater.
The lowest of seven bids received by the city last week would make the total projected cost more than $7 million.
The council, acting as the city’s Redevelopment Agency, voted 5 to 0 on Thursday to wait until May 14 to vote on whether to award a $5.5-million construction contract to C.W. Driver and Associates of Los Angeles.
“We’re looking at a significant expenditure of redevelopment funds,” Councilman Jim Ledford said.
“I think the new council can and should make the decision.”
