Brea’s McConnell Wins Speedway Main Event

COSTA MESA — Shawn McConnell of Brea won the four-lap scratch main event in the weekly speedway motorcycle program Friday at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Brad Oxley of San Juan Capistrano was second, Steve Lucero of Riverside third and Brent Werner of Hesperia fourth.

Gary Ackroyd of Newport Beach won the eight-lap handicap main event. Lucero was second, Robert Pfetzing of Orange was third, Mike Faria of Riverside was fourth, Gary Hicks of Riverside was fifth, Jeff Jones of Westlake sixth, Lance King of Huntington Beach seventh and McConnell eighth.
