Arroyo Student Wins Regional Citizen Bee

Mark Palomera of Arroyo High School in El Monte is among 15 California Citizen Bee regional winners in the contest sponsored by the Los Angeles Times and GTE.
He will compete in the state final at 10 a.m. April 25 at Times Mirror Square for the chance to represent California at the national final in Washington in June.
Regional competitions, involving 128 students, were held in March throughout Southern California. The students were tested on American history and government, geography, economics, current events, and American culture.
The program was developed by the Close Up Foundation in Washington to “combat an alarming lack of knowledge about the basics of American history and government among high school students.”
