Judge Extends First Capital Bid Deadline: The state Insurance Department persuaded Superior Court Judge Kurt Lewin to grant bidders more time to improve their offers for First Capital Life Insurance Co. At a scheduled hearing on the bids, Lewin agreed to extend the bidding until Thursday. Final bids were to have been submitted last Friday for the San Diego-based insurer, but Pacific Mutual came forward with a better offer Monday, said Norman Hile, a lawyer for the Insurance Department.
