Plane De-Icing
The article on airplane de-icing indicates a big step in the right direction (April 17). I hope this means that the Federal Aviation Administration will insist that the de-icing truck be at the end of the runway with the departing plane. It makes no sense to order a plane back to its parking slot for another dose of propylene mixture, then taxi out again in the freezing rain or snow where it will wait behind six other planes until it gets clearance to take off. De-icing at the end of the runway is the only safe way.
