Rejection of Tax Hike in Rancho Palos Verdes
- Share via
Affluent/rich/well-educated/concerned/thinking residents of glorious Rancho Palos Verdes. A (bankrupt) paradise on Earth!
We are surrounded by: lovely ocean views; BMW, Mercedes, Lexus and Infiniti cars, dandy Caddys. We are swarmed over by gardeners, swimming pool maintenance people, cocktail parties and fat-cat/charming churches.
But when the city is in deep fiscal trouble:
(a) Only 25% of the eligible voters bother to vote on a tiny--and temporary--tax increase. 25%! 25%!
(b) And those 25% turn down a tiny $200 per year tax assessment increase . . . with a three-year limit to same.
We absolutely deserve our decaying streets and a required limit on city “services.”
Is it just possible that Rancho Palos Verdes, underneath it all, is really just another phony, pretty U.S. suburb . . . ?
