Ben Amonette of Radford, Va., and Connie Petracek of Nashville, Tenn., were the leaders in air-pistol competition after the first of two selection matches for the 1992 Olympic pistol squad at Chino.
Amonette, a double silver medalist in the 1991 Pan American Games, led the men’s competition with 1,353.8 points out of a possible 1,418.
Petracek, the current national champion, led the women’s competition with 947.7 points of a possible 1,108. Two men and two women will be selected to compete in the Olympic event after the final tryout May 13-14.
