University’s MacDermott Shuts Out Tustin in Sea View League Surprise

TUSTIN — Scott MacDermott pitched a four-hit shutout as University upset fifth-ranked Tustin, 3-0, in a Sea View League baseball game Wednesday at Tustin.
It was the first league loss for Tustin (11-6, 7-1).
MacDermott (3-2), a junior left-hander, struck out one, walked none and hit a batter for unranked University (10-8, 4-4).
Jerry Apana and Donnell Dowdy had two hits each for University. The Trojans scored two runs in the second inning and one more in the seventh.
The loss drops Tustin, which has won four consecutive Sea View League titles, into a first-place tie with Saddleback.
Saddleback beat Corona del Mar, 6-2, also Wednesday. Tustin is at University and Saddleback is at Corona del Mar on Friday.
