USX Corp. earned $22 million in the first quarter as its steel division dramatically reduced its loss and its Marathon Oil unit was hurt by falling gas and oil prices.
The results contrasted with a $237-million loss in the first three months of 1991, when earnings were eroded by a $346-million pretax charge for restructuring, mostly related to USX’s steel operations. There are no per-share figures because the steel division and Marathon have separate classes of stock.
