Many of the top boys’ volleyball teams in Southern California will compete in the Redondo-Mira Costa Varsity Classic on Saturday.
The 30-team field includes six of the top eight teams ranked in the Southern Section 4-A Division (No. 1 Loyola, No. 2 Peninsula, No. 4 Irvine, No. 5 Mira Costa, No. 6 Santa Barbara and No. 8 San Marcos), three of the top four teams in the Southern Section 3-A Division (No. 1 Royal of Simi Valley, No. 3 Esperanza and No. 4 Harvard-Westlake) and the second-ranked team in the City Section (University).
“This is as tough a field as we’ve ever had,” said Mira Costa Coach Mike Cook, whose team is 11-4 and leads the Ocean League with a 5-0 record.
The Mustangs are led by outside hitter Cameron Green, who recently signed a letter of intent with Cal State Northridge.
