The annual Founders’ Day celebration in Fullerton...

The annual Founders’ Day celebration in Fullerton on May 9 will include a viewing of work in progress on the restoration of murals painted by seminal California artist Helen Lundeberg in what is now Police Department headquarters, at 237 W. Commonwealth Ave.
The ‘30s-era room where the mural was painted used to be the City Council chambers. In 1963, when a new City Hall was built, the Police Department moved into the older building, and the room with the mural was renovated. Lowered ceilings and the installation of air conditioning obscured and damaged portions of the mural.
Viewing hours at the Police Department will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other Founders’ Day activities will include a parade through downtown Fullerton starting at 10 a.m. and a street fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the Community Services Bureau at (714) 738-6836.
