A fire Wednesday night destroyed a Thousand Oaks house and garage, according to Ventura County fire officials.
Robert W. Carlson, owner of the home in the 100 block of Cedar Heights Drive, was not at home when the fire broke out in the garage shortly after 11 p.m. Thirty-five firefighters were called to the scene of the two-alarm fire. It took an hour to extinguish the blaze.
The house, valued at $235,000, was a total loss, fire officials said. The destroyed contents were valued at $100,000. A parrot also died in the blaze.
The fire originated in the garage, and the cause was under investigation, fire officials said.
